(lit. Farewell is to Your Honour) is a song from Japanese artist Koda Kumi's eleventh studio album Heart Throbs (2011). It was released on September 25, 2011 as the album's second single, and was released in six versions: CD+DVD, CD+Blu-ray, CD, CD+Blu-ray+DVD, CD+photobook, and the B-side. It sold 916,836 copies in its first week, making it her highest-selling single up to that point. It is also her highest-selling single since her 2006 single Love Is Wonderful.
Background and composition
The song debuted at number one on the weekly Oricon Singles Chart, selling 194,233 copies on its first week. It was the first time since her 2006 single Love Is Wonderful to debut at the top spot of the weekly chart, making it her highest-selling single up to that point. It also charted in Taiwan, Hong Kong, Malaysia and Singapore, and sold 74,000 copies in Taiwan and 57,000 copies in Hong Kong. The single was certified double platinum by the Recording Industry Association of Japan for shipping 200,000 units of the single.
"Yakusoku wa kimi no Uso" was written and composed by Koda Kumi herself. The song was the first song she composed after the 2010 Tsunami that devastated Japan.
Music video
The music video was directed by Tomomi Mochizuki. It was released on November 4, 2011. The music video shows Kumi singing in her room as she watches a soccer game in which a soccer ball makes a hole in the floor and disappears. She sees a red symbol in her room, which she believes is a ghost, but this disappears too. She gets on the rooftop and listens to the game. She then sees a plane crash in front of her, and she sings with other people who lost their family in the plane crash.
